Theo Spierings, CEO of New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra at the center of a milk powder safety scare, apologized on Aug 5 and pledged that all the contaminated material would be brought under control within 48 hours.

"Through WeChat, any person or any business can get all kinds of valuable services in a much more convenient way."

Zhang Xiaolong, senior vice-president of Tencent, China's largest Internet company by market capitalization, when the company released its version 5.0 on Aug 5, allowing its WeChat users to make online payments.

"The downturn of an industry is inevitable, just like the chilly winter comes after a fruitful fall. We have shifted our focus from these two major markets (the US and the EU) to the emerging markets in the past two years."
