Chinese leading education company TAL Education Group recently announced move to establish a global consultative committee as the company aims to improve technology and education through attracting more global talents.

The committee will involve world's leading talents in the field, including experts, scholars as well as leaders from educational technology companies. Rick Levin, former president of Yale University, will be the first counselor.

The move came as TAL participated in this year's ASU+GSV Summit and acted as one of the organizers. The summit, held in the US, is a top global meeting on educational technology.

"Chinese education market is huge and is developing at a rapid speed. A group of education companies hope to advance education through technology and strengthen communication with foreign enterprises and institutions," said Chen Dinghong, chief advisor of TAL overseas.

Chen said the concept of "Made in China" is now transforming to "Created in China, Made for World".

The Beijing-based company has applied an array of advanced technologies into their products to improve students' and teachers' efficiency.

Its Mo Jing system, translated as magic mirror, has leveraged facial recognition technology. The technology, based on artificial intelligence, can help to discern students' status through observing their facial expression and will generate a personal studying report.

"We want to help kids learn scientifically through cutting-edge technologies, including AI, big data and brain science," said Huang Yan, CTO of TAL.

At the summit, Xueersi Online School, a subsidiary of TAL, also announced appointment of Carl Wieman, a physics Nobelist, as senior researcher. He will responsible for the research and development of online courses on science, physics, chemistry and biology.

"Carl Wieman's appointment is not only because he is a physics Nobel laureate but also because he has carried out many innovations and brought many changes in education," said Chen Ningyu, general manager of Xueersi Online School.

Chen said with the new appointment, Xueersi Online School will endeavor to seek more breakthroughs in online courses in the future.
