Royal wedding fever has broken out across the UK as final preparations are underway for the nuptials of Britain’s Prince Harry and US actress Meghan Markle.

The couple will be married on Saturday, May 19, at Windsor Castle, one of the Queen’s official residences, in the county of Berkshire, west of London.

Huge crowds of fans and well-wishers are expected to descend on the town, and residents have spoken of their excitement about the weekend. “It's brilliant news, isn't it?,” said one Windsor local called Debbie. “Well done Harry. Meghan is lovely. So we can't wait to get it all happening this weekend.”

Another, Silke Wiegand, who is originally from the United States, said, "I am very excited because I live in Windsor and I moved here from the US last August so it's history unfolding in front of my eyes.”

Gift shops at the picturesque town are already making the most of the big day, with shop shelves stacked with all kinds of souvenirs including royal mugs, magnets and crockery. At a gift shop opposite the castle, 70-year-old Alan Earwaker said, “I've bought this mug to commemorate Harry and Megan’s wedding on Saturday, to celebrate and to have something to keep.”

According to one estimate, the wedding could provide a 500-million-pound boost to Britain's economy. Some eager fans, wanting a good viewing spot, have already set up camp on the pavement outside Windsor Castle.

Surrounded by union flags, John Loughrey, who has camped out for other royal weddings and births, said, “I met them at Brixton this year and I told Prince Harry and Meghan that we would be here to support you at Windsor, in red, white and blue. And I kept my promise, that is why I'm here, with my friends, the royal supporters.”
