Customs across the country have launched a special action on intellectual property protection for the second half of the year, according to a report by Economic Information Daily.

In this action, customs will strengthen cooperation in law enforcement with relevant local departments and enhance supervision on infringing products in all dimensions, with consumer electronics, automotive accessories, personal care supplies, clothing, bags and footwear as key regulatory targets, the report said.

The General Administration of Customs said it will focus on protecting the well-known brands of transnational corporations and domestic enterprises with advantages in exporting intellectual property, so as to enhance the confidence of enterprises in investing in China.

The action, starting July 1, will last for six months. During the period, customs will combine the regional locations, operating characteristics and route distribution of local customs to strengthen comprehensive research and judgment and effectively block illegal activities.

The move will target the six different transport channels, including sea, air, land, railway, express and mail, and consider the different characteristics of the flow of infringing goods under different forms of trade, such as general, market procurement, and cross-border trade and e-commerce, the report said.

At the same time, the customs will strengthen the effective supervision over infringing goods exported to countries and regions such as North America, Europe and Japan. It will focus on goods related to public health and safety, such as consumer electronics, auto accessories, personal care products, clothing, bags and footwear.

It will intensify supervision over goods exported to South America, Africa and the countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. And it will bolster key monitoring on the illegal transshipment of infringing goods through Hong Kong and Macao.
