TIRANA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Albania kicked off here Monday.

The exhibition entitled "Beyond Memories" is co-hosted by the Center for Openness and Dialogue of the Albanian prime minister's offices and the Chinese Embassy to Albania, showcasing a collection of 16 China-themed commemorative stamps and one envelope issued by the Albanian Post from 1968 to 2009.

Some Chinese traditional artworks from the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing, including Nanjing cloud brocade, paper-cuts and lacquer painting, are also displayed at the event, which will run through Nov. 29.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Albania Zhou Ding said that the Chinese embassy, together with its Albanian partners, has hosted various events this year to mark the 70th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations, which were established in November 1949.

Noting that both China and Albania appreciate art, Zhou said that the two nations, with their similar history and frequent art exchanges, share the value of openness and inclusiveness, and cherish their national culture, independence and dignity.

For his part, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said "this activity is a moment of looking back at the past through popular images."

Observing that China has become Albania's second largest trading partner after the European Union, Rama said that the bilateral relationship "has no other option but to recognize continuous growth."

According to the prime minister, as of the latest release, the number of Chinese tourists to Albania is expected to grow by 65 percent in 2019 year-on-year, making it the biggest increase among foreign tourists in the Balkan country.

Rama also expressed the expectation that the two countries could further strengthen cultural cooperation and reciprocal ties to benefit both peoples.
