Instigating violence is doomed to fail

The US recently signed the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 into law, regardless of the solemn opposition from China.

To blatantly support the violent rioters and intentionally add fuel to the flames of violence, certain US politicians will only cause resentment among the Chinese people, including Hong Kong compatriots, and they have exposed their hypocrisy to the world.

No country could ever whitewash the crimes committed by rioters in Hong Kong over the past five-plus months. Holding unlawful assemblies, storming government and legislative offices, vandalizing public property, setting fire to shopping centers, banks and universities, assaulting people who love Hong Kong and undermining their freedom of expression, and causing the death of innocent civilians, has caused horror around the world.

Their behavior, which has sabotaged Hong Kong's rule of law and disturbed the city's social order, are terrorist acts. They have turned Hong Kong, once one of the safest cities in the world, into a city of fire, and turned universities into the base camp of violent radicals and weapon factories.

Violent criminals have severely undermined the fundamental freedoms and rights of Hong Kong residents. Statistics indicated that by the end of October, the radicals damaged 460 sets of traffic lights in Hong Kong, broke 46,000 meters of handrails, and dug up pavement bricks covering about 2,900 square meters.

They also vandalized 145 railway stations and damaged 1,600 subway entrance and exit gate machines, as well as about 1,100 closed-circuit TV cameras in subways. Moreover, about 300 franchised bus routes, and more than 300 minibus routes were diverted or suspended due to violent activities.

Hong Kong "is sliding into the abyss of terrorism", according to The Economist. Even some US media outlets have admitted that "Hong Kong protests were growing more violent and ugly".

More people have come to realize that the unrest in Hong Kong has seriously undermined Hong Kong's economy and social order, and such violent crimes would not be tolerated in any country.

The Hong Kong bill seriously distorts the facts and reflects the sinister intentions of certain US politicians, who described violent crimes as "a beautiful sight to behold" and said the police officers who displayed restraint in the line of duty were "suppressing" protesters.

Some US politicians claim that the US "has human rights standards that apply to the world," and consider the Hong Kong-related bill to be "a commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law." In fact, the US, which has serious human rights issues itself, is in no position to point fingers at other countries and tell them what to do.

The bill adopted by US politicians to confuse the public and support anti-China troublemakers has fully exposed their double standards.

Right and wrong must not be reversed, and justice shall prevail. Hong Kong society has voiced its opposition against violence, love for peace, support for the police, and determination to safeguard the homeland.

Meanwhile, people from all walks of life in Hong Kong voluntarily cleared the city of debris and barricades left by protesters and urged the courts to punish violent rioters promptly.

Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs. China will resolutely implement the "one country, two systems" policy, firmly support the chief executive in leading the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to rule according to law, support the Hong Kong police in strict law enforcement and the Hong Kong judicial authorities in punishing violent criminals in accordance with the law.

Any attempt to undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability and hinder China's development will not succeed.
