Ancient opera stages are an important type of China's ancient architecture.

The opera stages in Ninghai county, with a great number exquisite structures and multiple connecting caissons, are unique among the stages in Zhejiang. Ninghai is thus called the "hometown of China's ancient stage culture".

Opera stages are usually the most decorated buildings in the village, and the construction of ancestral halls and opera stages was a major event in the local village.
