As of Oct 31, electricity transmitted from North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region through eight ultra-high-voltage (UHV) transmission channels reached 801.54 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), according to the State Grid Inner Mongolia Eastern Electric Power Co.

This amount of power could supply annual electricity to around 280 million households, reducing 270 million metric tons of coal consumption and cutting 700 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

As a key national energy and resource base, Inner Mongolia's UHV grid development closely aligns with China's energy strategy.

Utilizing its abundant coal, wind, and solar resources, the region built a backbone network connecting major eastern load centers such as Shandong, Tianjin, Shanxi, Jiangsu, and Hebei. Annual power transmission has steadily increased from 7.37 billion kWh in 2017 to 170.6 billion kWh in 2024, marking seven consecutive years of growth and positioning Inner Mongolia as a crucial hub for interregional energy distribution.

To ensure safe and stable UHV operations, the grid operator implemented an integrated system of "smart control, multi-dimensional inspection, and precise maintenance." Customized maintenance plans are developed for each transmission line based on geography and climate, with a two-hour emergency repair response network in place. Additionally, nine local monitoring teams, comprised of herders and coordination mechanisms with local power and wind energy companies, enhanced joint management of potential risks.

The efficient operation of UHV channels is also driving the region's green energy transition. To date, over 102 billion kWh of clean energy has been delivered to regions including Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, supporting cleaner and more sustainable energy structures across northern China.
