The Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center announced its 2026 performance program on Thursday, alongside a sweeping new branding strategy and plan, signaling a major shift from venue operation toward original content production as it enters its second decade.

At the heart of the announcement is an expansive lineup structured around eight themed festivals, bringing a year-round calendar of musicals, plays, and dance productions — many premiering in Beijing for the first time.

The international musical theater program features original-language productions from across Europe, including Broadway hits Chicago, French-language works like Don Juan, and Cyrano de Bergerac, the Russian musical The Brothers Karamazov, and the German production Einstein — The Theory of Relativity, making its Beijing debut.

Chinese productions also take center stage, with high-profile Chinese-language musicals such as the Chinese version of the US musical Murder Ballad, and The Picture of Dorian Gray adapted from Oscar Wilde's novel, alongside a new in-house production, Hei Qi Ling, or "Black Flag Order".

A special concert series will bring together more than 20 leading musical theater performers from the United Kingdom and Germany to perform iconic numbers from classics like The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Hamilton.

The drama program will showcase prominent Chinese theater-makers and actors, including new works by director Song Tianshuo and playwright Zou Jingzhi, as well as enduring audience favorites.

Meanwhile, the dance segment highlights major companies performing works rooted in traditional Chinese aesthetics, alongside an international dance adaptation inspired by a global pop culture phenomenon.

Beyond the stage, the center is expanding its role in urban cultural life through four seasonal public programs blending performances, markets, exhibitions, and reading events. Its arts education arm will also see a comprehensive upgrade, introducing new training pathways spanning dance, musical theater, and traditional opera in collaboration with leading institutions.

A highlight is the launch of the Tianqiao No 9 creative hub, a new facility designed to support the full life cycle of original productions — from development and rehearsal to staging and promotion. Equipped with an experimental theater, rehearsal studios, and co-creation spaces, the hub aims to nurture emerging talent and foster innovation across genres.

With its new initiatives, the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center is positioning itself as a major incubator for original Chinese performing arts and a launchpad for the next generation of stage talent.
