The new Oriental Fragrance Collection, launched in Beijing, is being presented as the world's first commercially grown large-flowered scented clematis, a landmark in breeding the plant species.
The series includes three new varieties of the plant, often known as the "Queen of the Vines", and takes just a few years from pollination to reach the market.
It is the latest outcome of a breeding partnership between Beijing Florascape and the Guernsey-based team of Raymond Evison, a British clematis breeder and former president of the International Clematis Society.
