US urged not to exert pressure on trade(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-06-15 12:05 China on Thursday urged the Congress of the United States not to press it to resolve trade-related problems. "We hope U.S. senators would not politicize economic and trade issues, and not resolve the issues by exerting pressure," Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said at a regular press conference. Qin made the remarks in response to a bill introduced on Wednesday by four U.S. senators that aims to press China to let the RMB rise more quickly. "The two sides should resolve trade problems in the principle of equal consultation," He added. He also hoped the U.S. Congress would view the importance of the healthy and stable development of China-U.S. relations from a strategic height, and properly handle trade frictions. China has adopted a managed floating RMB exchange rate, the spokesman said, and China has already begun reforms of the RMB exchange regime, and the reform is ongoing. "The reform of renminbi exchange rate aims at reflecting the market demand and supply in a better way, and we hope the U.S. would realize this point with an objective view," Qin said.
