Japan's crude steel output up for 6th straight month

TOKYO - Production of crude steel in Japan rose for a sixth successive month on year in April, the Japan Iron and Steel Federation said in a report on Friday.

Japan produced 8.99 million tons of crude steel in April, a rise of 56.7 percent year-on-year.

Separately, the World Steel Association (WSA) reported that global crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the WSA was up by 35.7 percent on year in April at 122 million tons.

Regarding other countries in Asia, China's crude steel production for April rose on year by 27 percent to 55.4 million tons, marking the highest amount of crude steel China has ever produced in a single month.

Meanwhile, South Korea's crude steel production for April stood at 4.8 million tons, a rise of 22.9 percent year-on-year, according to the WSA.
