Indonesian sends doctors to help quake victims

JAKARTA -- Twenty Indonesian doctors were sent to China on Tuesday to help victims of the earthquake, Indonesian health ministry said here.
The head of the crisis center of the ministry Rustam Pakaya said that Indonesia had prepared 43 others doctors and 57 others rescuers from military and police to be sent to China.
"Today we send 20 doctors first, as it is requested and approved by the Chinese government," Pakaya said.
He said that the ministry would wait for the request and the approval from the Chinese government to send other personnel
The twenty doctors would join with others international medical persons in Gansu province, which was hit by the quake, the second hardest after Sichuan province, said Pakaya.
"They flight with Garuda Indonesia GIA 898 plane and then continue by land transport to Gansu," he said.
The death toll from China's May 12 earthquake rose by 4,520 to reach 65,080 as of Monday noon, according to the Information Office of the State Council.
The casualty figures included 360,058 injured and 23,150 missing in the 8.0-magnitude quake that was centered on the southwestern Sichuan Province.
About 14.38 million people have been relocated from quake- affected areas, according to the office.
Earlier, Indonesia has sent logistic and foods and other relief equipment, said Pakaya.
