China to help Laos develop telecom satellite

China will help Laos develop a telecommunications satellite and a ground station, as well as train relevant staff under a recent agreement, Laotian newspaper Vientiane Times reported Monday.

The Chinese side will exchange technical information with Laos in the fields of earth observation, remote sensing satellite technology and application of remote sensing data under the agreement signed last week in Laos by Bountiem Phissamay, head of Laos' National Authority for Science and Technology.

The agreement was inked earlier in China by Sun Laiyan, chief of China's National Space Administration.
