Seminar held on theory on socialism with Chinese characteristics

BEIJING -- A seminar to sum up the development of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics was closed here Saturday with senior Party leader Li Changchun present.

In 30 years of reform and opening-up, China applied the basic principles of Marxism into Chinese reality and developed a theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, said Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Chinese President Hu Jintao's speech at the event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 3rd plenary session of the 11th CPC Central Committee on Thursday was an important guideline for Chinese to continue the reform and opening-up and worth careful study, he said.

While Chinese society is undergoing deep and broad changes, the research on this theory should keep up with the reality while more efforts should be made to promote it among all CPC members and ordinary people, he said.
