11 nabbed for alleged drug smuggling in Shanghai

SHANGHAI -- Eleven people were nabbed for alleged drug smuggling in Shanghai, local police said on Wednesday.

A total of 13 kilograms of ice and more than 2.5 million yuan gained from drug smuggling were seized, according to police.

Among the suspects was Lu Along who was said to supply drugs to Yu Song, a man who had been imprisoned for selling drugs, before they had a dispute over prices.

Police said they were told that Lu and his wife were about to buy seven kilograms of ice from a drug dealer from Chengdu on January 5 and staked out his residence and another apartment. They said they seized the trio on January 6 with the ice as well as more than 1.7 million yuan.

Short of a supplier, Yu allegedly established connection with his inmate, a man surnamed Guo.

Police said they traced Guo and caught Yu, a man from Chongqing whom they said was a drug seller, and several others on February 21, when they were suspected of doing the trade, seizing three kilograms of ice and around 600,000 yua

Police also got some 200,000 yuan from Guo's home together with several bank cards. Guo confessed that he had bought and sold more than 20 kilograms of drugs since the Spring Festival.

Further details are not yet available and it is not known when they would be committed for trial.
