The Chinese premier also met separately with Czech President Vaclav Klaus and Prime Minister Jan Fischer to discuss bilateral cooperation, said Yang.

Wen said the Czech Republic was among the first countries to forge diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China, and that the China-Czech relations have solid foundation.

Friendly cooperation has been the main theme of China-Czech relations since they established diplomatic ties 60 years ago, Wen said.

The Chinese government has given high priority to its relations with the Czech Republic and cherishes the traditional friendship between the two countries, he said.

Wen noted the year of 2009 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Czech Republic. He said China will avail itself of the occasion to join hands with the Czech Republic to enhance mutual political trust, expand trade and mutual investment, strengthen cooperation in science and environmental protection, promote nongovernmental exchanges, and better coordinate in international affairs so as to push Sino-Czech relations to a new high.

The Czech leaders shared with Premier Wen's views on bilateral relations and his proposals for furthering bilateral cooperation. They said the Czech Republic views China as a major partner and is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in joint efforts to tackle global financial crisis.

Yang described the 11th China-EU summit as very fruitful, which sent a positive signal that China and the EU would overcome difficulties and ensure a sustained and stable development of their relations, he said.

China and the EU are major players in the international arena. To boost China-EU cooperation conforms with the general trend and popular feeling of the times when the world is facing more global challenges.

"We have full confidence in the development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership," he said.
