701 officials arrested in Chongqing this year

The Chongqing prosecutor's office announced Monday that the city has dealt with 523 criminal cases involving 701 government officials between January and July of this year, the Chongqing Evening News reported Tuesday.

The number of cases in which officials have illegally taken advantage of their positions is up 20.7 percent, and the number of officials involved is up 16 percent compared with the same period last year.

Among the 523 cases, there are 415 corruption and bribery crime cases, and 108 abuse of power cases.

The Chongqing prosecutor's office also said they had found an economic loss of 27 million Yuan ($3.95 million) from the 523 cases.
