Plastics and rubber in demand

Exhibitions in China have seen an increase in orders for booths from plastic and rubber manufacturers - a sign of the nation's improving economy, according to an exhibition chairman.

"This can be seen from plastics and rubber manufacturers' initiative to order show booths," Stanley Chu, chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, said last Friday.

As a sponsor of CHINAPLAS 2010, which is scheduled to open at Pudong New International Expo Center on April 19, 2010, Adsale has witnessed more requests for booths.

Local exhibition insiders said the boom of orders is closely related to China's economic recovery. Statistics show that China saw an increase of 11.9 per cent of its plastics from January to August to reach 27.82 million tons.

Liu Jingfen, vice president of China Plastics Industry Association, said the plastics industry in east China has also maintained a growth tendency even though it was hit by the financial crisis.

She said the region produced more than 10 million tons of plastic resins between January and August of this year.

Insiders said growing sales of automobiles and the development of the power industry have also created a platform for the country to develop its plastics and rubber industries.

As of October, China had sold more than 10 million autos. It put forward a plan in May to invest 4 trillion yuan in building its intelligent power network by 2020.

Chu said the exhibition will bring together global industry elites under one roof to not only showcase a top-notch sourcing platform but also introduce the world's latest technologies.

"Companies, big or small, can discover solutions from the fair to enhance their product development and sharpen their competitive edge," he said.
