City links traffic offences and loans

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-05-08 16:08

People's traffic violation records will become a reference in recruiting civil servants or issuing bank loans in Suqian, Jiangsu province, the People's Daily reported on Tuesday.

A total of 13 traffic violations including running red lights, speeding and jaywalking will be recorded on personal credit histories, according to new rules issued by the city's traffic police.

A platform has been established to ensure that the credit records on traffic violations can be tracked by banks, insurance company, transportation and social security departments.

Notably, the municipal government will take account of the traffic records of candidates who pass the civil servant examination before making a final decision on whether to offer them a job.

Many Chinese cities have started to crack down on traffic offences such as jaywalking and illegal parking. In Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, pedestrians running traffic lights will face a 20 yuan fine, according to local media.
