Anti-terrorist legislation may be speeded up

By ZHAO YINAN | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-06-26 16:32

China may speed up anti-terrorism legislation, a senior official said on Wednesday morning.

Guo Shengkun, minister of public security, said the ministry is planning to work with the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, to facilitate the legislation in a bid to deter crimes and maintain social stability.

Guo made the remarks as he delivered a report to the NPC Standing Committee on Wednesday morning.

China currently does not have a specific law covering terrorist activities, although the top legislature in 2011 approved a document submitted by the State Council to allow the government to verify a list of terrorist names and organizations to block their assets.
