A 20-year-old college student was fatally stabbed by his dormmate on Tuesday afternoon in their dorm in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, the official website of People's Daily reported.

The victim, surnamed Nie, who was a student of Shanghai University Ba-shi Automobile College and a native of Southwest China's Yunnan province, was rushed to the hospital but died on Wednesday morning.

The suspect, surnamed Tang, a 21-year-old native of Anhui province, was bullied by Nie often, according to other students living in the dorm building.

Tang has been put under criminal detention.
