The first guidance center where social organizations and companies help to provide services for the elderly was launched in Beijing's Chaoyang district on Wednesday.

The center, in Jinsong Zhongjie, will be completed and start operating in May. Statistics show that more than 400,000 people aged 60 and above are permanently registered residents in Chaoyang - one sixth of this age group in the capital.

Li Xiaomei, director of the guidance center, said care services for the elderly in which companies and social organizations take part cover geriatric rehabilitation, nursing, medical care, meals, spiritual comfort and other consultations.

The elderly can phone a hotline or go online when they need assistance.

Li said the center will set up guidance stations in different streets, townships, communities and villages in Chaoyang.

It is estimated that the first stations, in the Fatou and Panjiayuan areas, will be completed before June and will complete trial operations in October.

Li Hongbing, deputy director of Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau said, "The care center is a good opportunity for more social organizations and resources to enter the elderly-care industry", adding that such centers will be promoted throughout Beijing.
