The provincial Party committee of Guangdong has reassigned 866 "naked officials" recently, the committee's organization department was quoted as saying by People's Daily on Tuesday.

Naked officials is the term given to government leaders whose spouses and children have migrated overseas. Such officials are not eligible to stay in important posts.

Among the 866 reassigned officials, nine had leading roles in departments, 134 held leading roles in divisions and 723 had leading roles of sections or below.

As required by the central inspection team in February, the provincial Party committee of Guangdong has thus far identified 2,190 naked officials, of which 22 held leading roles in departments, 301 had leading roles in divisions and 1,867 took leading roles of sections or below.

Such officials in important posts are required to either bring their families back to China or accept reassignment. The ultimate goal of strictly managing these officials is not simply to restrict their promotions but to build a political environment that no longer contains naked officials, according to the organization department of the Party committee of Guangdong.
