Total prize money reached over 2 million yuan ($302,000) for the second China Youth E-Sports Competition, which opened Wednesday at an e-sports summit in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, according to Chutian Metropolis Daily.

The event this year includes King of Glory and League of Legends, two popular online games in China, the report says.

The internet and video center of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League — the host of the event – also hosted the first event last year in the city.

Over 50,000 contestants participated in the event last year, and over 500,000 people followed the game closely, the report says.

The internet and video center also announced in September it will base future events in Wuhan, which would make the city the center of the country's booming e-sports industry.
