Zimbabwe

Mugabe wins disputed vote

President Robert Mugabe won a landslide victory in Zimbabwe's disputed election, officials results showed on Saturday, as opponents vowed to challenge the poll, which the US said was not "credible". Mugabe, 89, appeared poised to extend his 33-year rule with a seventh term in office after trouncing his long-standing political rival, Morgan Tsvangirai, in Wednesday's election.

Egypt

Heads meet to solve crisis

Army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met overnight with Islamist leaders to try and resolve the crisis pitting supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi against Egypt's new leaders. Sisi "met with several representatives of the Islamist movements ... and stressed that there are opportunities for a peaceful solution to the crisis provided all sides reject violence", army spokesman Colonel Ahmed Aly said.

United States

Driver plows crowd, kills 1

One person was killed and eleven injured when a driver plowed his car through a crowd on southern California's Venice Beach boardwalk on Saturday evening, officials said. Police and witnesses said the driver of the dark-colored sedan fled the scene, but hours later police said they had found the car and detained a man in his 20s for questioning.

Yemen

Tribesmen attack oil pipeline

Tribesmen blew up Yemen's main oil export pipeline late on Saturday, halting the flow of crude, the state news agency reported on Sunday. The pipeline started pumping crude oil again last week after repairs that took several days, following a similar attack by tribesmen.

Tunisia

Govt says plot foiled 'terror'

Tunisia said its forces killed a "terror" suspect in a dawn raid on Sunday and separately foiled a political assassination, like the one that has plunged the country into crisis. The announcements came after rival protests for and against the Islamist-led coalition government, with the opposition demanding the resignation of the cabinet and the dissolution of the National Constituent Assembly.

Malaysia

37 people missing at sea

Malaysian rescuers found three bodies at sea on Sunday as hopes faded for 37 other Indonesians who went missing days earlier when their boat sank on their way home to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The wooden boat was believed to be carrying 44 people from Malaysia's southern state of Johor to Indonesia's Batam island. It sank in heavy seas late on Thursday, and four men were rescued on Friday.
