Building a bridge to global agriculture

By Zhuan Ti | China Daily | Updated: 2017-03-21 06:54

As part of the ChemChina group, crop protection company Adama is well positioned to serve as a bridge between the Chinese and global agrochemical sectors, with a strong presence in China and worldwide.

Adama is establishing both commercial and operational activities in China, capitalizing on the vast opportunities the country offers for crop protection companies. It has stated its commitment to introducing innovative products to China that are tailored to local farmers' specific needs and to bring simplicity to their lives.

Yossi Goldshmidt, vice-president of China Crop Protection at Adama, is leading this effort. He took on the management of Adama's Chinese commercial activities after establishing the company's Indian operations from the ground up. In that role, he positioned Adama India among the top three companies in the country in less than five years.

"We have been developing a close relationship with farmers, conducting dozens of meetings with growers across China to understand their pain points and provide solutions tailored to their needs," Goldshmidt said.

ChemChina's domestic agrichem entities have access to global markets through Adama's worldwide distribution network. Adama markets their products in key agricultural markets, such as the United States, Australia, India and soon Brazil, the world's largest agricultural market.

In addition, Adama is establishing its research and development, and manufacturing facilities in China. This operational hub, alongside Adama's Israeli center, will form the launchpad for the company's product offering for both the Chinese and global markets.

Adama established an advanced R&D center in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, in 2015 and further expanded it in 2016, adding highly-skilled personnel to its team and more products to its pipeline.

The company is nearing completion on its new global formulation and packaging center in Huai'an, Jiangsu province, which is expected to be unveiled within the next few months.

The close collaboration between ChemChina and Adama is expected to benefit the entire Chinese farming ecosystem, as Adama introduces its advanced solutions to the agricultural market.

"Since we joined forces with Adama, our partnership has yielded visible results and proven to be beneficial to all stakeholders, as well as to global farming," said Yang Xingqiang, chairman of Adama and president of ChemChina.
