9.9 billion yuan deposit a system failure
A man was startled when he read a text message from Huaxia Bank, notifying him 9.9 billion yuan ($1.6 billion dollars) has been transferred to his account on Thursday, the Beijing Times reported.
The man, surnamed Li, runs a decorating business in Beijing, said the bank account has been opened for two years and was his company's official account.
"I thought it was just a bank system failure, and I have never thought to use the money," Li said.
The bank confirmed the system failure later on Thursday, apologized to Li and other customers who have received the wrong message and promised it would not affect the safety of their accounts.
The cause of the system failure is now under investigation.
