You can marvel at the prosperity of the ancient kingdom when you stroll in the gardens, which are filled with indigenous flora from the northern region.

The park was originally part of the Doi Tung Development Project, initiated by the late Princess Mother of Thailand, which used to offer lodging and training to ethnic minority youths.

The Haw Kham, or the golden pavilion in the park, refers to an exquisite Lanna architectural landmark that was built to celebrate the late Princess Mother's 84th birthday in 1984.

To know more about the history of Lanna Kingdom, visit the Chiang Saen district, which draws tourists to see its ancient ruins, temples and a museum.

It is located in the Golden Triangle, where the Ruak River meets the Mekong River and also where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar borders meet.

The area used to be known as the largest opium-producing area in Asia, but is now a popular destination for travellers.
