Coins pinned to carpet against law

A carpet decorated with renminbi coins at a hairdressing parlour in Dalian
constitutes a violation of State law, reports Dalian Evening News.
The salon's owner fastened a dozen 10-fen coins to the new red carpet just
before it opened for business earlier this year, in order to "attract good
fortune", he explained.
He said he did not mean to desecrate the money, but copied the practice from
many other businesses.
According to the law, defacing or damaging the renminbi in any way is
punishable with a fine of 10,000 yuan (US$1,200).
