New banknotes in HK
( 2003-12-02 09:51) (Shenzhen Daily)

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Hong Kong's three note-issuing banks announced Sunday that the new HK$100 (US$12.8) and HK$500 (US$64.1) banknotes would be put into circulation from Dec. 15, 2003.

The two new banknotes will be available for exchange in all branches of the three note-issuing banks of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Ltd., Standard Chartered Bank and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd., starting on Dec. 15, 2003.

New notes for the remaining three denominations of HK$20, HK$50 and HK$1,000 will go into circulation in the second half of 2004. All existing banknotes will continue to be legal tender and to be in use along with the new banknotes.
