Top-seeded Carlos Moya edged Paul Goldstein 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Tata Open.

Moya will next face France's Thierry Ascione, who rallied past Indian Davis Cup player Prakash Amritraj 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Amritraj is the son of India's former Davis Cup captain Vijay Amritraj.

Moya, a former No. 1 player, won the 1998 French Open.

"I thought I was going to lose after squandering a 6-2 lead in the tiebreaker," the Spaniard said. "I'm lucky not to be booking my flight after this match."

Goldstein, ranked 121st, covered the court well and took advantage of Moya's mistakes.

"It could have been a career-changing victory for me," the American said. "I played well made him work hard for the points."

Fifth-seeded Felix Mantilla downed John van Lottum of the Netherlands 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-4. The Spaniard will play third-seeded Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands, who defeated Julian Knowle of Austria 6-3, 6-3.
