A look at US daily casualties in Iraq

As of Thursday, Aug. 7, 256 US soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the military.

The British government has reported 43 deaths.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 118 US soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest military figures.

The latest deaths reported by US Central Command:

_ A 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) soldier died Wednesday after developing a seizure while performing duties in Mosul, Iraq.

_ Two 1st Armored Division soldiers were killed Wednesday evening in a small arms firefight in Baghdad. One soldier died at the scene; the other died later from wounds received.

The latest identifications from the military:

_ Army Staff Sgt. Brian R. Hellerman, 35, Freeport, Minn.; killed Wednesday when an Iraqi vehicle opened fire on his unit in Baghdad; assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

_ Army Staff Sgt. David L. Loyd, 44, Jackson, Tenn.; died Tuesday in Kuwait after experiencing severe chest pains when on a mission; assigned to the 1175th Transportation Company, Army National Guard, Brownsville, Tenn.

_ Army Spc. Farao K. Letufuga, 20, Pago Pago, American Samoa; killed Tuesday when he fell from a roof while performing guard duty in Mosul, Iraq.
