US clean energy team arrives in Beijing(chinadaily.com.cn)
Updated: 2008-01-08 10:38 The United States Clean-Energy Technologies Trade Mission, led by US Commerce Assistant Secretary David Bohigian, is scheduled to arrive in Beijing this afternoon. In an earlier announcement, Bohigian said some 18 US companies, specializing in the renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean coal, would join in the mission. As China is hoping to develop an environment-friendly and resource-efficient society, the country aims to double the country's renewable energy supply by 2020. The Chinese Government would like to increase renewable energy to 10 percent of the country's electricity consumption by 2020. The US mission, representing innovative solutions to energy and environmental challenges, appears to be catering to the world's fastest growing economy's appetite. The US–China Clean Energy Dialogue is on the agenda for tomorrow. China's Ministry of Commerce, and the National Energy Office under the State Council, along with a number of Chinese energy enterprises such as CNPC and Sinopec, two largest petroleum and natural gas groups in china, as well as China Huadian Corporation and China Shenhua Energy Group, will take part in the dialogue. The topics covered will include clean energy technology trends and market opportunities in China, the legal and regulatory environment for clean energy, investing and financing for clean energy projects. After a scheduled group meeting with the NDRC on Thursday morning, the US clean-energy trade mission will leave for Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The mission is also planning on another two stops in India's Kolkata (Calcutta) and Bangalore. |
