Consumer price remains stable in October

The consumer price index (CPI) in China remained the same in October as in September this year, but was 4.3 percent up from the same month last year.

Figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics Friday indicated that the CPI in urban areas rose 3.7 percent, while that in the rural areas jumped 5.4 percent over the corresponding month last year.

Food prices saw 10 percent growth in October while those of non- food items, consumer products and services rose 1.3 percent, 4.8 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively, over the same month last year.

Grain prices led to the rise of food prices with a 10 percent jump in October over the same period last year, followed by those of meat, eggs and poultry, aquatic products and edible oil.

However, vegetable prices were down 9.5 percent, with the prices of clothing, durable consuming products, medicines, transportation and communications also on the decline.

From January to October this year, the CPI in China rose 4.1 percent over the same period last year.
