AC Milan, Chelsea and Lyon advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Champions League with victories at home Tuesday night.

Hernan Crespo beat American goalkeeper Tim Howard off a cross from Cafu in the 61st minute as AC Milan defeated Manchester United 1-0 and advanced on 2-0 aggregate. Crespo also scored for the Italian champions in the first leg on Feb. 23.

"It took a fantastic header from Crespo to decide it," Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said. "I'm disappointed to go out but we've gone out to a very good team."

Chelsea defeated Barcelona 4-2 to advance on 5-4 aggregate after losing the opening leg in Spain 2-1 weeks ago. John Terry's goal on a header in the 76th minute proved decisive.

The English Premier League leader took a 3-0 lead on goals by Eidur Gudjohnsen in the eighth minute, Frank Lampard in the 17th and Damien Duff in the 19th, but Barcelona's Ronaldinho converted a penalty kick in the 27th, then scored from 18 yards out to pull the Spanish League leader to 3-2. If the score had stayed that way, Barcelona would have advanced because it had more away goals.

"We're into the next round, but there's still a long way to go in the competition," Terry said. "But the main thing is we are there."

Three-time defending French champion Lyon routed Germany's Werder Bremen 7-2 to advance on 10-2 aggregate Sylvain Wiltord scored three goals, Michael Essien added two, and Florent Malouda and Jeremy Berthod got one goal each. Johan Micoud and Valerien Ismael scored for the defending German champions.

Four more second-round games are scheduled for Wednesday. Bayer Munich goes to Arsenal with a 3-1 lead, Real Madrid plays Juventus in Turin with a 1-0 advantage, Liverpool takes on Bayer Leverkusen in Germany with a 3-1 lead and PSV Eindhoven goes to AS Monaco ahead 1-0. American forward Landon Donovan plays for Bayer Leverkusen and U.S. midfielder DaMarcus Beasley for PSV Eindhoven.

Following a 1-1 tie in the first leg, defending champion Porto is at Internazionale of Milan on March 15.
