India, China to share training expertise

India and China agreed to share expertise in training athletes and detecting doping in sports.

Liu Peng, China's minister of sports, signed the agreements with the Indian government and the Indian Olympics Association on Friday.

Indian and Chinese athletes and coaches will train in each other's country, and China will share its advances in uncovering use of illegal performance-enhancing drugs, the two sides announced at a news conference in New Delhi.

"We share a time-honored friendship which has been enhanced by cultural exchanges," said Liu, who also leads the Chinese Olympics Committee. "In the field of sports, the memorandum of understanding will take the association to a new high."

India is host of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. IOA president Suresh Kalmadi said India wants to draw on China's experience as host of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
