There was an explosion on a bus in east London on Thursday but there were no reports of injuries, bus operator Stagecoach said.

A grab from an aerial television picture shows a number 26 bus which was evacuated after London's transport system was hit by bombs, in east London, July 21, 2005.

A spokesman for the company said the windows of the bus were blown out, although this was denied by a police officer at the scene.

"I have seen the bus. There were no windows blown out," the officer told Reuters.

The number 26 bus was travelling from Waterloo to Hackney in the east of the British capital. The incident occured in the Shoreditch area, the Stagecoach spokesman said. He said the structure of the bus was intact.

A Reuters witness at the scene said the bus had been cordoned off by police and was standing with its emergency lights flashing.

Paul Williamson, a 19-year-old resident who was working in a shop just 30 yards from the blast, said he had heard nothing.

"We spoke to one passenger, a blonde woman in her mid-twenties, who said that there had been a minor explosion but she said that there was no damage to the bus and no injuries."

Two weeks ago, a bomber blew up a number 30 bus as it travelled from Hackney towards central London. At least 14 people were killed in that blast -- one of four on that day which killed more than 50 people in total.
