Actress says many take roles for money; plus wigging out on ‘Dreamgirls’
Are some of Hollywood's highest paid actresses practicing the world's oldest
profession?
That’s what Natalie Portman seems to be saying. The “V for Vendetta” star
startled some when she compared certain working actresses to working girls.
“I don’t want to be working for money because then you are no different
[from] a prostitute,” Portman told Britain’s Independent newspaper. But Portman,
who also starred in such flicks as “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the
Clones,” says that her friends and family keep her from selling out. “I have the
most amazing friends in the world, who are doing such interesting and different
things, and are their own people,” Portman said. “They are my support base along
with my parents. They are inspiring and always doing different, interesting
things so I remember how to be a person by being around them.”
Wigging out
Some people are wigging out on the set of
“Dreamgirls.”
A source says that “huge amounts of time and money” have gone to elaborate
hairpieces for Beyoncé Knowles’ character in the film about a trio of women
Motown singers from the 1960s.
“The shooting keeps getting delayed because something goes wrong with one of
those darned wigs,” a source tells The Scoop. “During a dance routine, Beyoncé
was twirling and a fake nail kept getting caught in the wig and it all ripped
apart. Another time, some cakes were supposed to look like they were elevating,
but they were actually being raised by fishing wire, but it got all caught up in
her wig. The movie supposedly has a budget of almost hundred million dollars,
but you wouldn’t know it by the special-effects budget. I think a huge chunk of
it went those wigs.”

Gillian Anderson says she’s eager to
do another “X Files.” “David Duchovny and I and creator Chris Carter are
determined to do another,” Anderson told the Toronto Star. “Hopefully, by the
time we actually do it, whenever that is, people will still give a [bleep].” ...
The authors of a book on baby names are predicting what Tom Cruise and Katie
Holmes will name baby TomKat. “Tom's older children have very trendy names with
classic roots: Isabella and Connor," says Pamela Satran, the co-author of
“Beyond Jennifer and Jason.” “So we think the new baby — reputed to be a boy —
will follow that pattern. Our top name guesses, despite the rumors of Hubbard,
after Scientology founder L. Ron, are Aidan, Jackson and Oliver.” ... “Hostel”
director Eli Roth is no fan of “Crash.” “I hated that movie so [bleep] much I
want to punch people in the face when they say they liked it,” Roth told the
U.K.’s Event Guide. “It is so preachy. It’s like, ‘Racism is bad!’ And no one in
America will say anything bad about it, because they don’t want to get called a
racist. It’s like a bad Canadian TV movie, and now it’s won all these awards.
It’s not reality. I watched ‘48 Hrs.’ That’s a better film about racism.”
