High-tech industry: Best example for Guangdong-HK cooperation

In addition to being one of Nansha's leading industries, its high-tech sector also has amassed an impressive record of cooperation with Hong Kong.
APT Electronics Limited, is a joint venture with intvetment from Hong Kong Advanced Photoelectronic Technology Limited. The company's total registered capital is $27 million. It's considered a pioneer among joint ventures for innovation.
"The development of high-tech can't be separated from high-level industrialization. Hong Kong and Nansha can complement each other in this field, especially when Hong Kong has world-leading research ability and a financing platform," said David Xiao Guowei, president of the APT Electronics Limited.
"The achievements of APT were a perfect example of close cooperation between Nansha and Hong Kong," said Xiao.
The company, founded in 2008 and chose to locate in Nansha, were "cooperation with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on LED study and research", and received "help from the Fok Ying Tung Foundation".
The company has a total of 150 staff in both research and administration. Their salaries account for 80 percent of total payroll expenditures of the company. The company has over 20 Hong Kong employees. Graduates of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology account for half of the administrative staff of the company. They are paid a premium over typical Hong Kong salaries.
The company is engaged in pioneering technology in flip-chip LED production. It's potential is to develop LED lights, with five times the efficiency of present day products and with only a half to one-third the energy consumption. By 2015, 50 percent of the lighting market will have shifted to LED lights. The market share of the company could reach 500 billion yuan by then.
