Among anniversaries highly significant to China that are being marked this year are the 70th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the 88th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army. The artist Wang Haili has created a series paintings that record contemporary Chinese people's collective memories of these events. His works are a combination of Chinese and Western painting techniques, but which display strong Chinese characteristics. The 70 works on show tell the story of how the Chinese Communist Party led the fight against the Japanese invaders and how the PLA has borne the Chinese spirit of safeguarding world peace.
