Mudong village music took shape in the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911) in Mudong Town, Banan district and can be traced back to ancient Bayu song and dance and can be separated into two types, the Helai, which is a rare kind of folk song and children's tunes.
The monograph Mudong Village Music contains over 300,000 characters recording the music and was published in 2005.
Mudong village music is known as outstanding Bayu folk art, but because of recent tremendous social changes, it is in danger of dying out and needs to be protected.
