No business like showbiz, when it comes to love

Two of the hottest stars in Chinese movies have joined action hero Donnie Yen in the wilds of Yunnan province for the martial arts vehicle Wu Xia, a $20 million production directed by Peter Chan. The almost impossibly good-looking Takeshi Kaneshiro hooks up with the improbably attractive Tang Wei in the lead roles. Kaneshiro will play a detective on the trail of a killer, portrayed by Yen, while Tang is the love interest.

Kaneshiro's agent has been playing down rumors the star is married after he wore a ring on his left hand on the set of the film, thereby giving hope to single women everywhere that he is still available.

In contrast, Chinese actor Sha Yi confirmed rumors at a press conference this week that he and actress Hu Ke are an item - but added they are not married yet.

"If we do (get hitched) we will let you know," Sha said, after appealing for some privacy. "There are some paparazzi following us around, which is uncomfortable."

Sha rose to fame after appearing as one of the lead characters in the 2006 TV series My Own Swordsman, while Hu is the former host of a children's TV program.

Sha said their romance was not a love-at-first-sight story, but a gradual evolution. Hu added on her microblog that: "I am happy, please let us love freely."

Meanwhile, Taiwan singer Elva Hsiao has put an end to gossip that she is dating the singer Nick Zhou and told the whole world at her 31st birthday party on Tuesday that she is in the market for love.

Singer Show Luo turned up for the party, delivered a cake and gave her a diamond-studded bra. The present obviously surprised Hsiao, as she took a look at the vital item of support and reckoned it was "too small!"

"I'll wear it for Show next year on his birthday. Maybe I'll have to alter it to a bigger size first," she said, according to a XINmsn story.

Jolin Tsai has been telling anyone prepared to listen (and there are hundreds of millions) she's also looking for love. Jay Chou's former squeeze said in an interview the man she was searching for had to be handsome, with a set of well-defined muscles and be able to give her a sense of security. The 30-year-old also revealed that when she drinks too much she has no memory the next day about what she did the previous night.

Finally, from no love to too much. Taiwan actor Johnny Kou recently suffered a minor stroke, but when the 55-year-old's wife and "concubine" turned up at his sick bed it caused a media storm, according to Sohu.com.

The chorus of disapproval was led by director Gao Qunshu, who said he was told about the actor's marital arrangements by members of his crew.

"I can't believe Taiwan still permits the one-wife-and-one-concubine system. What's worse, how dare he come to the mainland to take one of our young women," Gao twitted on his Sina Weibo microblog, referring to rumors that Kou also has a mistress on the mainland.

"No wonder Brother Kou has been working so hard on his acting on the mainland these years. He has a heavy family burden."
