Abstract: The research team of DRC on “People’s Livelihood in China” conducted a household survey in 2015. The results show that 68.1% of respondents were willing to participate in the supervision of environmental pollution, and 52% of the respondents actually participated in the action, indicating that people’s participation in environmental protection was active, which played a positive role in promoting the overall environmental regulation. But in light of the current requirement for improving the environmental quality, the number of people participated in the supervision of environmental pollution is still insufficient. The performance of different social groups on supervising environmental pollution is significantly affected by their age, gender, income, education, occupation and relevant factors, so it is imperative to take targeted policy measures to enhance people’s participation in environmental protection. In view of the weak points of people’s participation in environmental protection, it is necessary to improve the reporting system concerning the violation of environmental protection cases, guide people’s participation in a legal and orderly manner, promote the willingness of the people’s participation in environmental protection in poor ecological environment areas and rural areas, enhance the willingness of young and highly-educated social groups to participate in relevant projects and encourage them to take actual actions, and bring into play the leading role played by middle-aged social groups, high-income social groups, government agencies and social organizations in environmental protection projects.
