Dingxi Potato Fair blossoming

When the city of Dingxi, in Gansu province, had its China Dingxi Potato Fair for this year, on Oct 10, it geared its activities to potato farming, for example, by providing potato exhibitions and inviting people to factories, and even letting them dig some potatoes.

And there was an opening ceremony, with the chairman of the China Agri-product Marketing Association, Zhang Yuxiang, and vice-governor of Gansu, Wang Xiyu, taking part [ In addressing the ceremony, Wang said he hopes the city can take the opportunity of the government’s interest in the potato business to restructure the industry and develop its own advantages through innovation and suggested that it attract investment and follow China’s “365”agricultural modernization plan for a stronger economy.

Gansu province does profit from the potato business, with more than 33 companies involved in potato seedlings. This year, it is cultivating more than 708,000 hectares of potatoes and expects to produce 12.11 million tons.
