Gansu artists perform in Nepal to celebrate the New Year

Dozens of artists from the Gansu provincial opera house put on grand performance in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, on Jan 27, to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year and mark the 60 anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal.

The Gansu cultural art performance centered on the theme of "Happy Chinese New Year", with artists showcasing Chinese dance, acrobatics and magic tricks, creating a special festival atmosphere for the attendees.

The chief secretary to the Nepali Prime Minister and Wu Chuntai, the Chinese ambassador to Nepal, were on hand to address more than 1000 overseas Chinese spectators watching the performance.

During the celebration, Wu Chuntai said, "it has been 60 years since China established diplomatic relations with Nepal, and this year our embassy is looking to hold different celebrations to mark the good relationship between the two countries and also help the Nepalese further understand China and Chinese culture. The New Year Performance is one of the activities."

The chief secretary to the Nepali Prime Minister agreed with Wu in boosting mutual understanding through cultural communication. He also compared the Chinese Spring Festival to the Nepali Dashain, an important festival for the Nepali where people fly kites and play cards to celebrate, and wished the Chinese people a happy New Year.

The 'Happy Chinese New Year" performance was sponsored by the Chinese Cultural Ministry and also received the support of the Chinese embassy in Nepal, the Gansu Provincial Cultural Department and the Association of Chinese companies in Nepal.
