Ukrainian medical personnel learn traditional Chinese medicine in Gansu

The fourth batch of Ukrainian medical personnel visited Gansu to learn more about traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) on Nov 9.

More than 30 Ukrainian medical personnel have visited the province over the last three years, including cities such as Qingyang and Pingliang, which are considered to be the birthplace of TCM.

“In Ukraine, more and more people trust and choose to use traditional Chinese medicine,” said a professor from Ukraine State National Medical University.

Cooperation between the two sides began in 2013, when the Gansu Health and Family Planning Commission signed a cooperation agreement with Ukraine Kiev Health Department. In the same year, Gansu launched the Qihuang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ukraine, becoming the first overseas traditional Chinese medicine college.

According to historical records, Ukraine adopted the use of acupuncture therapy into its mainstream medical system in 1979. At that time, there were five traditional Chinese medical centers and about 17,000 acupuncture doctors in Ukraine.
