The provincial traffic administration bureau is set to launch tough measures targeting non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians for three months in a bid to reduce road accidents in Hebei.
The new efforts on major roads of cities and counties where accidents and traffic violations often occur will start on June 1 and finish at the end of August, the Hebei Traffic Management Bureau said on Monday.
The measures will be aimed at drivers of non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians who engage in behavior including crossing roads without obeying the traffic lights or the instructions of traffic officers and the measures will also target pedestrians who cross the roads by climbing over the protective rails.
The bureau also aims to adjust traffic lights to provide sufficient time for people to cross, and residents who violate the traffic laws will be fined and will have to attend lectures including watching videos of accidents, to make them fully realize the dangers.
More volunteers will stand at crossings to aid the traffic officers and the authorities are also set to increase supervision to reduce drunk driving. |
