The hospital, founded in 1957, is the largest specialized hospital for orthopedics and pulmonary medicine in the western Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The inpatient department of infectious disease spans an area of 46,000 square meters and a construction area of 19,000 sq m. The inpatient department of orthopedics covers 15,000 sq m and a construction area of 7,889 sq m.

With a fixed asset of 63.35 million yuan ($9.99 million), the hospital has 510 beds, receiving about 48,000 outpatients and 6,400 inpatients every year.

It developed 19 research projects from 2009 to 2012, including three leading projects on tuberculosis, infectious disease and orthopedics. It is equipped with 15 large and medium-sized medical devices.

The hospital had won 16 honors at the city level or above, including designation as an “Outstanding group of the Baotou Red Cross Society” and an “Advanced group of nursing care services in Baotou”.
