A seminar on business cooperation between Shanxi, Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries opened on June 26, in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province.

“Macao is a bridge for trade and exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. It is becoming a global tourism and leisure center and a service platform for international cooperation and trade,” said an official from Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute. He invited Shanxi enterprises to expand to Portuguese markets through Macao.
21 representatives from seven Portuguese-speaking countries, including Portugal, Brazil and Timor-Leste, attended this seminar.?All seven countries promoted their own resources and investment policies, while the energy, infrastructure and tourism were hot fields of discussion.
Shanxi and Portuguese-speaking countries enjoy closer cooperation in multiple fields, such as economy, culture and education, said Sun Yuejin, head of Shanxi’s Department of Commerce.
“Brazil is the host of 2016 Olympic Games and is raising more business opportunities. We hope more Shanxi enterprises will invest in Brazil,” said Chang Hexi, secretary of the permanent secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

Chang explained that early in 2010, China put forward a series of policies to promote cooperation between Chinese enterprises and Portuguese-speaking countries. China Development Bank set up a fund to support such cooperation, and projects between the two countries can apply for support from the fund.
“We’re very interested in the railway and wind power projects in Portugal as well as Timor-Leste’s offshore oil projects. We will communicate with them in the future,” said a representative of Shanxi enterprise at the seminar.
This seminar was expected to help Shanxi’s enterprises expand in Portuguese-speaking markets.
The seminar was part of the Dynamic Macao Business and Trade Fair, which took place in Taiyuan on June 26 and ran for three days.
